Glendale Police Department Field
Services 2004 This report contains summary data for Field Services operations during 2004. The report contains information regarding calls for service, officer activity, Detective Bureau and K-9 operations, vehicle pursuits, Use of Force incidents, training and awards. The information contained in this report was compiled from Spillman and other department records. Calls for Service / Officer Activity The Glendale Police Department logged 12,607 calls for service in 2004. By comparison there were 13,372 calls logged in 2003 and 15,315 in 2002. The following chart is a comparison of the total number
of calls for the 10 most frequent types of calls that officers responded to
for the last three years.
In 2004 the Department recorded a total of 8,195
enforcement contacts. Enforcement
contacts include arrests, traffic violations, warnings and field
interrogations. In addition to
enforcement contacts, officers issued 2,014 parking citations in 2004.
A comparison of enforcement contacts for the last three years is as

The Department recorded a total of 682 UCR reportable
offenses in 2004, a 22% reduction from the 2003 total of 867.
There was a notable reduction in the number of larcenies compared to
the last several years. The
following chart shows a comparison of reported UCR offenses for the last three
years.
Training The Department
recorded a total of 4,537 hours of training in 2004.
Officers received training through in-service, specialty schools and
in-house training programs. During
the year the Department completed training on response to active shooters,
which culminated in a full-scale exercise at Nicolet High School in July.
The exercise was a simulated event of domestic terrorism involving
active shooters, mass casualties, a hostage situation and explosives that
included 27 participating agencies or organizations.
This exercise was extremely beneficial for both the Department and the
community. We also had one
officer graduate from the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety
School of Police Staff and Command in 2004. Department Awards The following

Officer Rhett Fugman Desk Officer Todd Lynch was promoted to Patrol Officer in June. Officer Robert Poetzl retired in September after 9 years of service due to a duty-incurred disability that he suffered while arresting a suspect in 2003. |
