NOTICE OF ENTRY LEVEL TESTING

FOR POLICE OFFICER

The testing cycle includes a written exam, background investigation, oral interviews, medical exam and psychological evaluations. Applicants must be citizens of the United States, in good health, 18 years of age or older, and meet the minimum certification requirements.

Applications may ONLY be submitted to Glendale Police Department 5909 N. Milwaukee River Pkwy., Glendale, WI 53209 and MUST be received by February 17, 2012 at 4:00PM.  Applications must include a $20.00 testing fee.  Written requests for waivers will be considered.  Please select one of the following testing sites and include it with your application:

Essential Duties Of A Police Officer:

bulletRunning for several hundred yards
bulletClimbing over obstacles
bulletCrawling
bulletPushing motor vehicles
bulletPulling or carrying accident, fire or crime victims
bulletUsing physical force to apprehend and subdue arrestees
bulletWithstanding prolonged exposure, as long as eight hours, to extreme weather conditions
bulletWithstanding prolonged periods of standing and sitting
bulletWithstanding frequent exposure to stress-producing situations such as encountering persons injured or killed by accidents, crimes, or suicide
bulletDealing with domestic disputes
bulletDealing with verbal and physical abuse of the officer, including taunts, insults, and threats to the officer, including family members, or fellow officers
bulletCommunicating effectively with individuals suffering from trauma
bulletOperating a motor vehicle for long periods of time
bulletUsing a firearm effectively
bulletFilling out written reports in a clear and concise manner

Minimum qualifications:

bulletAssociate Degree in Police Science or Criminal Justice, or
bulletBachelor's Degree (any area), or
bulletWisconsin L.E.S.B. certification.

Benefits:

The following benefits apply to Police Officers in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Glendale and the Glendale Professional Police Association, for contract year 2008 and may be explained fully therein. All benefits are subject to collective bargaining negotiations. 

Wages - $52,540.80 (2012 Starting Pay)
                $67,045.32 (2012 Top Pay)

Life Insurance - Employees receive a life insurance policy in an amount based on the annual salary which is paid for and maintained by the City.

Hospitalization - Effective the first of the month following the date of hire, the employee and dependents will be covered by his or her choice from several different HMO options or the standard plan.  The employee cost varies by plan.

Vision & Prescription Program - HMO or standard plan vision and prescription programs are available.

Vacation - Employees having completed one year of continuous service shall receive 10 working days of vacation.

Sick Leave - Shall be earned at 1 day per month and shall be accumulated to a maximum of 180 days.
