AUTO THEFT PREVENTION

bulletPark in well lighted, busy areas.
bulletAlways lock your car.
bulletAlways lock your valuables in the trunk or take them with you.
bulletGive the attendant only your ignition key.
bulletTake your registration and insurance card with you.
bulletCopy your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and know your license plate number.
bulletEtch your VIN on your vehicle's windows, doors, fenders, and trunk lid.
bulletIf your car is stolen or broken into, report it to the police immediately. Stolen vehicles are often used in other crimes and the sooner it is reported, the better chance of recovery.

 

Your Responsibility As A Car Owner

bulletIf you move notify the department of Motor vehicles so that your address on the vehicle listing can be changed.
bulletHave the Vehicle Identification Number checked before buying a car from someone other than a reputable automobile dealer. If the car is found to be stolen, you will probably be out the money.
bulletNEVER let a prospective buyer take your car for a test drive alone. Always go with them.
bulletNEVER keep the vehicles title of ownership in the car and do not sign it until you actually transfer ownership.
